Alberto Collodel


Born in 1981, he began playing clarinet at an early age. Then he picked up electric guitar and bass, mostly playing in rock bands. From the late 1990s, he resumed the study of clarinet and bass clarinet, devoting himself to jazz and improvised music of non-idiomatic matrix. In 2005 he co-founded the Aufheben project, a musical collective operating in the field of audiovisual art with the use of improvisation, electronic music and video art. In 2006, he joined the musical collective Improvvirusoundexperience, a 13 elements band, playing mainly improvised music, participating to numerous Festivals. Since 2007 he has been a permanent member of Kongrosian: a group made up of wind instruments, working in the field of free improvisation, and collaborating with some of the most significant Italian and European musicians. In June 2009 he joined the contemporary music ensemble 'Novamusica', directed by pianist and composer Giovanni Mancuso, with whom he also began a collaboration in a duo, focusing on the study of the scores of Anthony Braxton and Tim Berne. In September 2009 he actively participated in the 'ComposAzione' Workshop at the Venice Biennale of Contemporary Music, performing original pieces from Mosca, Cappelletti, Montalti and Tadini. In October 2009 he participated in the Bristol Jam Festival, with the Moving Sound Ensemble, a group dedicated to musical improvisation and dance. In September 2011 he co-founded, together with Luciano Caruso, ZVUK quartet: a wind instrument project dedicated to the study of the entire thematic corpus of Thelonious Monk in a contemporary key. From 2011 to 2013 he curated, together with Giovanni Mancuso and other members of the Novamusica Ensemble, the first three editions of the “Venti Nuovi” Festival at the Querini Stampalia Foundation in Venice. In addition, in 2013, he was among the organizers of "A Vele Spiegate", a contemporary music festival held between April and September 2013, at the Venice Arsenal. In 2014, he founded the DST project, with Simone di Benedetto on double bass. A duo dedicated to free improvisation and contemporary music, with whom, in July 2019, he presented his first work (The periodic system, AUT Records) at the Italian Cultural Institute in Paris. In 2016 he had the pleasure of collaborating with Rob Mazurek in the "Land of Spirals" project, as part of an artistic residency promoted by the "Novara Jazz" International Festival, together with young exponents of the Italian creative music scene. He has attended seminars conducted by: Alvin Curran, Mats Gustafsson, Charlemagne Palestine, William Parker, Evan Parker, Maurizio Giammarco. He had the pleasure of playing and recording with: Ivan Pilat, Stefano Giust, Dominik Gawara, Davide Lorenzon, Alessandro Fiorin Damiani, Luciano Caruso, Lukas Ligeti, William Parker, Evan Parker, Peter Knight, Alvin Curran, Charlemagne Palestine, Mats Gustafsson, Frank London, Rob Mazurek, Steve Lehman, Mattias Schubert, Edoardo Marraffa, Nicola Guazzaloca, Gabriele Mitelli, Piero Bittolo Bon, Giovanni Mancuso, Pietro Tonolo, Adam Simmons, Marc Abrams, Maurizio Giammarco, Giorgio Pacorig, Beppe Scardino and many others.
