Jack D'Amico

b.1989 born and raised in naples, based in rome. studied classical music with mº mafalda würzburger, then degree in jazz piano with greg burk at the music conservatory of frosinone. in 2010 I approached improvised music and became a founding member of the crossroads improv collective, based in Naples. in 2014 the album “chaos magnum” was released on auand records, made with the band “forefront” - a work of improvised and contemporary music. with the same band, we held a workshop on “contemporary music in relation to jazz and improvisation” at the circolo arcipelago in cremona. nowadays, making music for me is to try to get into the mind of the listener and drag it with me into the dark abyss of sound and improvisation. music IS sound. in my exhibitions, I play mainly inside the piano and I use preparations, objects and extended techniques, like the “hyperpiano extended piano performance techniques” developed by the great denman maroney, trying to explore new textural soundscapes. besides, I play a fender rhodes connected to a pedal board, dealing with noise and primitive and mysterious sound material. anyway, any kind of music I play, I always love to float between noise and songs, songs and noise, noise and silence.
